REPORT
On November 7th, 2023, an educational trip about the environment kicked off from
the college at 05:40 a.m. The group consisted of 27 students and 3 teachers from the
commerce department (Mr. Rajagopal A T, Ms. Shahna C K, and Ms. Reshma P R). Our goal
was to learn and understand more about the environment.Students and teachers
gathered at the college at 05:30 a.m. We traveled for three hours and arrived at
Cheruthoni around 08:30 a.m. for breakfast. Following breakfast, we made our way to
Calvary Mount and arrived there by 10 a.m. After walking about one and a half
kilometers from the foothills, we reached Calvary Mount to enjoy the aerial view of
Idukki Dam.Calvary Mount, also known as Kalliyanathandu, is a renowned Christian
pilgrimage site situated atop a hill. It offers a panoramic view of the Idukki Reservoir,
surrounding peaks, and forests. It's a favored spot for mountain climbers and trekkers.
After spending approximately two hours there, we headed to Orange Restaurant in
Kattapana for lunch around 1 o'clock.Following lunch, we proceeded to Ramakkalmedu
and arrived there by 3 o'clock. Upon arrival, the students were split into 6 groups of 9
and taken for jeep trekking. It was an adventurous and enjoyable experience, including
visits to two major viewpoints in Ramakkalmedu. Amappara near Ramakkalmedu is an
up-and-coming tourist destination in the Idukki district, offering adventure
opportunities. Two large rocks lean on each other at the hill's crest, resembling a
tortoise, hence the name Amappara ("tortoise rock"). Ramakkalmedu also features a
historic site with a Monument to Kuravan and Kurathi, depicting the Sangam Period and
landscape of Kerala and Tamil Nadu. The monument offers a panoramic view of Tamil
Nadu villages and towns, including Cumbum, Theni, Kombai, Thevaram, Uthamapalayam,
Bodinaykannor, and Vaiga.
