National Service Scheme (NSS) is a noble academic extension programme envisioned at national level, with a view to bring our academic institutions closer to the society. It is an educational programme for personality development of the students through community service. The basic concept of National Service Scheme is to give an extended dimension to the Higher Education system and orient the students to community service while they are studying in an educational institution. This is to create social consciousness among students, by establishing a meaningful linkage between the campus and the community, especially the rural community. The cardinal principle of the programme is that it is organised by the students themselves and both students and teachers through their combined participation in social service, get a sense of involvement in the task of national development.
Understand the community in which they work.
Understand themselves in relation to their community.
Identify the needs and problems of the community and involve them in problem-solving.
Develop among themselves a sense of social and civic responsibility.
Utilise their knowledge in finding practical solutions to individual and community problems.
Develop competence required for group-living and sharing of responsibilities.
Gain skills in mobilising community participation.
Acquire leadership qualities and democratic attitudes.
Develop capacity to meet emergencies and natural disasters.
Practise national integration and social harmony.
The National Service Scheme was introduced in our college during the academic year 2015-2016 as self financing Unit (No: 501). Mahatma Gandhi University declared our NSS Unit as funded in the period 2022-23. Now we have 1 unit of NSS (Unit No. 210) with strength of 100 volunteers working for social, economic and educational welfare of society. Under the scheme, each volunteer contributes 240 hours of community work during a period of two years. Participation in the NSS is voluntary. An NSS volunteer is eligible to receive a certificate for the participation in NSS provided, if he/she completes 240 hrs of regular NSS work and attends a special camp with minimum of 7 days duration.
The NSS unit of the college regularly conducts a number of activities such as cleaning drives, AIDS awareness programmes, blood donations, creation of community assets, relief works, environmental protection programmes, literacy programmes, health education campaigns etc.
